The benefits of celery juice

Maybe it's just a fad, but it's still not a bad idea to consume it because of the many benefits it provides. I'm talking about boom que ha desatado, en especial en las redes sociales, el famoso jugo de apio fresco.

I went to visit my grandchildren in Los Angeles and at Whole Foods, the favorite supermarket among Californians – who are known for their health – I was struck by the number of people waiting in line for fresh celery juice. Pablo, my son, also passionate about nutrition, told me about the wonders of drinking it: “It’s all the rage.” monojuicing por las mañanas, mamá, es decir, tomar el jugo de una sola verdura o fruta. El que más éxito ha tenido es el de apio”.

So we decided to line up and wait with curiosity and patience, as if it were a chocolate ice cream, for a dark green juice.

I'd never tried it before. The taste, due to its low natural sugar content, isn't pleasant but not unpleasant either. It tastes "green." However, mentally, just eating it made me feel healthier. Celery isn't a vegetable; it's considered an herb. And the truth is, you get used to the taste.

Although celery has been used since ancient times in Chinese medicine, the initiator of this movement on social networks is Anthony William, known as medical medium, who is also the author of several books, claims that "celery juice is the most powerful medicine of our time." He doesn't actually have a formal medical degree and publishes sensational stories of people who have been relieved of a thousand ailments, so I wonder if science would back up that claim. However, I also believe it's not something that's harmful to your health, so I decided to believe him, as well as the various celebrity followers of his, such as Miranda Kerr, Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro, and Gwyneth Paltrow, as their testimonies on social media demonstrate.

Curiously, upon my return from that trip, I learned that a friend's daughter, who suffers from gastritis, was recommended by her doctor to drink a glass of celery juice on an empty stomach for 21 days. The young woman reported significant improvement. So, in addition to drinking it daily, I began researching this new trend and its reasons for sharing with you, dear reader. I'm sharing what I found below.

The benefits of celery juice

  • It contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, electrolytes and water, it is high in enzymes and flavonoids that act as antioxidants.
  • Its components are anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, and alkalizing, which for me is the most important, since the amount of acidic foods we consume—proteins, sweets, alcohol, coffee, and so on—can alter the ideal pH in our blood. When this happens, our body wisely "steals" minerals from our bones and muscles to maintain stable levels, which is unhealthy over time.
  • It helps maintain the health of the gastrointestinal tract, eliminate waste, and correct digestive disorders.
  • It's rehydrating, so it's best taken before or after exercise; it's also a diuretic and helps cleanse the skin.
  • It can help reduce blood pressure.

Preparing it is very simple; just wash a couple of heads of celery thoroughly, including the leaves, and put them in the juicer. You can also blend it with a little water and then strain out the fiber. Whether it's a trend or not, drinking green juice is healthy, so I encourage you to incorporate celery juice into your diet.
